8-Axis Robot Machining Service

As well as producing our range of furniture pieces, we offer an 8-axis robot machining service to architects, construction companies, furniture makers, artists and individuals, specialising in large scale wood machining, from furniture elements to architectural scale pieces.

Our Melbourne workshop is equipped with one of the most advanced 8 axis robot wood machining systems in the world. Capable of bandsaw cutting, chainsaw cutting, 5-axis milling, scanning and digitising and with a work area of up to 2m diameter and 10m long (with larger diameter possible for shorter pieces) we are well equipped to tackle a large range of jobs.

Other Capabilities

While we specialise in machining timber, we can and do carve some other materials and also have a capability for Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF) in aluminium, steel and other metals. Our workshop is also fully equipped with traditional joinery machinery, a vacuum kiln for timber drying, 3-axis CNC router, lathes, mills and welding facilities (MIG, TIG, ARC) to complement our robot machining equipment.

Examples

Some examples of past work include:

  • Architectural scale wood milling of sculptural timber elements and facades
  • Bandsaw milling of curved timber beams, sleepers, seating and pier edging
  • Milling of sculptural pieces for artists and designers
  • Public artworks – machining of casting patterns, elements and large sculptures
  • Milling of solid wood sculptural furniture components
  • Automated and adaptive robotic workflows with probing/scanning to inform placement/size of machined details
  • Machining of sculpted timber speaker boxes and horns
  • Oversized wood turning of pieces from 0.3m to 3.6m diameter
  • Machining of accurate joinery details into natural round timber logs to interface with other timber and steel structural elements
  • Bandsaw milling sculptural facades and feature walls
  • Robot carved surface textures
  • Incremental sheet forming of parts for musical instruments, facades and cars
  • Customisations based on our own furniture designs
  • Complex CNC machining of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) and mass timber materials
  • Sculptural commissions and custom furniture commissions
